It's about a man's son who is a drug dealer that is supplying his Dad with marajuana to help deaden his resentment for being fired from his job at the U.S. Postal Service for stealing Playboy magazines from sight-impaired residents.

The father finally sees the hypocrisy for condemning his son's lifestyle while rationalizing his own weed addiction.

He then attempts to support his son's career choice while simultaneously attempting to score a 2 finger baggy with the lyrics...

"Carry on my wayward son...."

The lyrics that originally followed, "Now pass the dutchie from the left hand side..." were eventually dropped because of their obvious drug reference, which Kerry Livgren (Kansas's lead guitarist) opposed.

Hope this helped,
:)
