I have worked in Hospital Radio and think that i am a good DJ but there is no one in Stoke On Trent that will give me a chance to show my skills. Is there anything i can do to get noticed

It helps to go to college and take communications classes - but that's not mandatory. A lot of DJ's do start by just hanging around the station and working their way up. Sometimes there are public service announcements and such - and even advertisements that need to be done by the crew of DJ's. If you are willing to do those things pro-bono - it might help you to get noticed - if your work is great.

I think it's usually who you know and not what you know nowadays. Get to know some DJ's - hang out where they do - offer to do anything for free for them and maybe you'll get a chance when they're off sick or something. I think you're in the right direction with hospital radio - it's a good place to start. You will need to be prepared to move though as if there's only one local station in Stoke you're not going to get very far.

A broadcasting school can give you a well-rounded background in technique. But I would say you should expand your career goal to Content Creator. With multiple delivery systems and portable entertainment gadgets to compete with... Today’s broadcaster will not only have to know how to edit and produce audio but, you should also have a working knowledge of graphics, video and web editing; Because the Internet is going to become an expanding part of radio. Also sharpen up your interviewing and news reporting skills. And when you send out a resume that shows a versatile pallet of skills… You’ll be the person considered for the job. Good luck!

Go to your local radio and tell them you will work as a teaboy for free then work your way up.

Try some of the digital stations, such as CORE, who put on competions for new talent via their website.
