i asked this question aswell...i was really excited about feeling it.. now i wish it wouldnt kick and prod my bladder when it is full lol
for me i was 17 weeks and 2 days i def felt a pressure.. as if someone was pushing outwards... then quite quickly it becomes a fluttering and then noticable kicks! then all the kicks get harder and the movement more noticable... the best way to describe it once u know u have the harder feelings.. is it feels like a baby moving and kicking lol sounds silly but is true..
u will know for sure when u feel it.. and u will realise u have felt it before but was unsure..
good luck and dont worry u will feel it! and then u will feel it all the time!

I didn't feel any fetal movements in my first pregnancy until around 19 or 20 weeks. First time mums tend to be well into pregnancy before they feel the baby moving around.
At first, fetal movements can feel like a gentle fluttering inside, very subtle, so that you think, "was that....? Oh, it's stopped!" Gradually they become more and more obvious, so that you wonder how you could ever have mistaken them!
As the baby gets bigger you will be able to feel individual movements, such as definitite kicks, punches, loop-the-loops (until s/he gets too big!), and maybe even hiccups, which can be really disconcerting (like someone knocking from within).

Don`t worry , 16 weeks is still a bit early especially as its a 1st pregnancy . With my first baby i think i felt the first movements at around 18 weeks , some say it feels like butterflies other compare it to wind but mine felt more like little prods on the belly , relax and enjoy your pregnancy :)
Good luck ..

A little flutter feeling. 16 weeks is still a little too early to feel anything. Any time after 20 weeks but nearer 25 weeks you may feel a little flutter movement, it can be hard to detect though because wind can sometimes have the same feeling. All the best with the baby.

I felt them early on...the only way I can think of to describe them would be to say if feels like a butterfly...little fluttering movements. Nothing to pronounced at first. As the baby gets bigger and gains his/her strength, you will KNOW. One jab to the bladder is all it takes!
At your next check up, ask them to use the fetal heart rate monitor...you will be able to hear her moving around, even if you can't feel it.
Good Luck!!

I'm not sure what my baby was doing in there, but his first movements sure didn't feel like butterflies lol. Actually, it felt exactly like muscle twitching like a when someone rubs your belly and the muscle jumps or twitching in your legs after you exercise. At first I thought my uterus really was twitching, like it was some sort of growing thing, but it kept happening in different places and getting stronger and stronger. Now it only feels like that when he's really low, most of the time I can feel him actually kicking and my stomach will move. My husband can feel it from the outside too now. I guess everyone is different. Congrats :)

some baby's are what we call lazy babies and do not move around a lot, others can be very active and some just don't stop.
all pregnancies are different, normally you may start to feel something like butterflies in your tummy around about 4 months, but even this can be so slight that you may not have noticed it.
if you are concerned then the best person to ask will be your midwife, she will be able to listen to your babies heart beat and reassure you.
the baby will let you know when he/she is ready to start kicking, and you will not mistake that when it happens.
so take advantage of the rest now while you can, it may not last for much longer.

"Quickening is the first time you feel your baby move. If you are in your first pregnancy, you should expect to feel you baby move at about 18-20 weeks. If it is not your first pregnancy, you could be able to feel it sooner because you already know what the movement feels like. Most women describe this feeling as butterflies, bubbles, gas. The first time feeling your baby move is a very exciting time in each woman's pregnancy."

It's a hard sensation to describe.
People always say it's like butterflies, but I didn't think it was at all.
Have you ever been swimming in a lake and had a fish brush by you? Or had a goldfish brush by you when you're cleaning the tank? I think that those first movements felt like that, but inside.
It's a funny, swimmy sensation.
You probably won't feel it, or recognize it anyway, until you're 18 weeks or so.
