Depending on how you formatted it

Use a data recovery program

grc.com

Spinrite does this with damaged or barely functional drives. It then transfers any recoverable data to another drive.

It costs money for the program but not an outrageous amount like other products out in the market.

I'm not sure I understand your logic: "i formatted my laptop, because I backed up all the data" but anyway most hard drive data can be save by professional recovery specialists. That cost a bundle but it most probably is possible to do. But I doubt there is anything you can do by yourself if the drive is not event recognized.

If it is, try this site and good luck http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1139

You're hard drive holds basic data. (Binary, 1's and 0's)

When you format your hardrive you change all data to
0's and a new file system is written. All of your data from
that drive is completely gone.
