Beining that the smoking ban in all public places has passed, are you now happy that many places will lose business or possibly even close? We say that we are hurting economically, well good job OHIO you just made things even worse. It should be the business owners to decide what they want for their establisments not us. If you don't like the smoking then go somewhere else.

Why does it seem like the non-smokers of the world are trying to make cigarettes illegal? No matter where you go someone is trying to or succeding in banning smoking...

Do you not remember that tabacco was the first cash crop of the US? Do you not remember that it is the smokers that are paying for your new stadiums? Is it too much to ask that the owners of bars and resturaunts decide what goes on in their own stores? Why do you worry so much about smoking when there is so many other more important things for you to worry with?

How about worrying about the abused children? How about taking care of kids with special needs...making sure they get the finest educations they can have? What about your local schools..do they have enough text books? Do they have adiquit heat in the winter? Are there enough good buses to get your kids to and from school?

Why harrass me with my one bad habit in life. It is my choice to light up. I don't drink, do drugs, cat around on my husband...I work, pay taxes, volunteer with Girl Scouts and at school. I also go to school myself...as well as take care of my family. Why can't I smoke? Is it too much to ask? I don't smoke in a non-smokers home or car, I don't throw my butts on the ground, I'll sit in a non-smokeing section if I go out to dinner with you. I respect your right to not have smoke in your world...why don't you LEAVE ME ALONE with my cigs?

Let's see what happens about the lost business. I personally stayed away from bars because I was sick and tired of smelling like an ashtray when I left. No more of that! And there are many others like me.

You're right in saying that the business owners should decide. That's why even though I feel the way I do, I still voted against Issue 5.

first... I'm not a smoker.
If i don't want to breath smoke.. i don't go to the places where i can be exposed to it.
If i go to the bar... i expect that people there will smoke and i make my choice to go or not.
I agree it should be up to the owner of the establishment to decide on smoking.
As long as smoking in Ohio is not illegal no one should dictate to the private owner on the issue. What kind of freedom is that?
as for people why say that everyone should quit smoking... you probably never had an addiction that was inflicted onto you by society and industry.

I lived in NY at the time they banned smoking, I now live in Ohio.....I voted in favor of issue 5 and against issue 4. In NY I heard the same crap that it would hurt business, smokers would leave and never come back......it was all bull.....business is better than ever, the smokers have conceded and returned and the environment shared by all is much cleaner and healthier. Even the smokers comment on how much better they smell when they go home. Many smokers have taken the initiative to quit smoking and make their lives healthier. Many who stopped patronizing smoking establishments will be thrilled to come back and enjoy a night out without smoke.

First off, i voted down issue 5.

Yes i don't like smoking but its basically saying cigars, cigeretees and pipes are illegal!

And as for the bars, people smoke when they drink(not all but alot of people do) and even people who don't normally smoke do.

Bars in my town were already try to sell....now whose going to buy them? no one!!

my friend just started a new second job at a denny's and that will cut buisness...which means less tips

i think it should be up to the owners...now voters.

It is a great step forward. The businesses will recover, and eventually thrive. The employees who have had to be amidst a definite health hazard will be better off. Smokers have their options. If their addiction is so unmanageable, yes, perhaps they will decide to curtail visiting establishments. yet there will be new customers amongst the overwhelming majority who do not want to be subjected to the cancerous emissions.
