good sound, good mood

This is actually a really neat question. Sound can effect mood so much. I could be having a miserable day, and then I hear a song on the radio (like What's Up by 4 Non Blondes), and my whole mood is elevated.

The film industry has spent several decades and millions of dollars creating sounds that will effect our mood while watching movies.

Remember the "Jaws" theme music? Didn't that terrify you, hearing that music and knowing the shark was about to bite that surfer in half?

Or what about the sounds that cartoon characters like Scooby Doo and Shaggy make when they start to run away? It makes you laugh.

Sound can be as instrumental (no pun intended) to life experiences as sight is. Remembering your mom singing you lullabies can make you feel happy and safe. Hearing the chirp of locusts in the summer can take you back to being a kid and laying on your back in the grass watching the clouds roll by.

Sound makes me feel a range of emotions. And the clicking of my keyboard reminds me to get back to work...

PS (Just for fun, read the interesting article from Wikipedia on the history of sound effects below.)

We have music all day at work and when they play screaming rock stations I feel like I could explode and I end up with a headache. It puts me in such a bad mood and I feel like I start to get mean to people. I can't wait to get out of the office. My boss likes it so I'm stuck. Sounds affect my moods a lot. But the most frustrating is when you can't control the sounds around you that you hate (e.g., like someone building a new house near by, dogs barking for long periods of time, etc.).

Sound affects my mood tremendously, the people in my house think I am nuts because if there is alot of noise, or something is load, such as the tv, radio ect. or a sound that is aggrevating like a car alarm, or crying cat, It drives me nuts, my mood changes to pure distraction and a bad attitude.

"...even as a voice wondrously sweet, or a melody played: although sounds are but vibrations in the air which affect the ear’s auditory nerve, and these vibrations are but chance phenomena carried along through the air, even so, see how they move the heart. A wondrous melody is wings for the spirit, and maketh the soul to tremble for joy..." ~ Abdu l-Baha

I have a sound machine in my bedroom, at night when I'm stressed or having trouble falling asleep I listen to ocean waves, it relaxes me.

Also, listening to good music can ALWAYS boost my mood.

Interesting question.
