They don't stink. The reason many people have this idea is that for years, people have been keeping guinea pigs in cages way too small for their needs, and not changing the litter often enough.

You'd smell too if you were stuck sitting in your own pee and poop for a few days!

I recommend going to www.cavycages.com to learn the correct size cage for a pig. They teach you there how to make a cheap cage your pig will love. There is also information on how to take care of your pig.

Good luck!

They don't stink - I have 10. If your friend's guinea pigs smelt then she obviously didn't clean their cage out often enough.

Oh.. and I agree with the above answer about cages! Small cages are horrible, they make it smell and the guinea pigs don't have a happy life in a small cage. Best look at this website www.cavycages.com

Hello,
If you keep the cage clean piggies do not smell, A simple rule of thumb is if you can smell them you have waited to long, not changing the cage leads to ammonia build up and if left like that your piggies can get upper respiratory infections and pneumonia. Some people think that using a litter that also controls odor is no better. Pine Shavings with Chlorophyll and those Cedar shaving can be just a dangerous to your piggy as leaving them in a dirty cage. If you are going to keep a good cage try Yesterdays news, Care fresh or woody pet.

With all animals of this type it is the male ones that stink as the smell marks their territory. Make sure you get all female ones as you will not have this problem and will not have to worry about them breeding either. Enjoy your new pets but sure they are females!

Not if you keep their bedding clean and change it often. You must clean out their cage on a regular basis as well. If you do this, they will not hoof at all.
