Are Zippo lighters dangerous?

Any lighter can be dangerous.

I dont think zippos are any worse than lets say a Bic lighter. The danger is only greater since you can change/add fulid and flints to the zippo to keep them.

If you spill the fluid and or drip on your hands you risk the possibility of flaring up your hands. But if you cannot properly maintain a zippo than you shouldnt be using one.


I cannot stand that god awful smell they put off yuck. Esp, when you light a cig you can taste it.

Yes

Unlike traditional lighters you see out here, they DON'T have the safety shutoff switch on them. If you turn a regular BIC lighter on, when you let go of it, it turns off then hits the ground (thus doing nothing)

If you turn a zippo lighter on, and drop it, the fire will consume anything it touches.

Not usually, but playing with fire is dangerous. Keep them out of the reach of children, obviously.

Thee were quite a few houses in this area over the years that were burned down because of kids playing with them! In fact a few little kids actually DIED! Does THAT answer your question?

That depends on what environment you are in.

If you're standing in a pool of gasoline, then I'd have to say yes.

If you are just lighting a candle, not very.
