The baby can't control his erections. It's probably not because he's looking at a girl; he doesn't think that way yet.
Babies feel pleasure through their whole bodies. He's probably getting an erection because the warm water feels good on his skin, and he's relaxed by the bath itself.
It's fine for a girl to give him a bath until he becomes self-aware. As in, until he realizes that he has an erection, wants privacy, knows the difference between boys and girls, etc.

A boy can get an erection at any age and it is perfectly normal so try not to be embarrassed. As a baby sitter you should supervise bathing until the child is 10 or 11, Then switch to supervising starting the bath and cleaning up and drying off but try to avoid the nude parts. Respect the boys privacy. If the boy has not developed a lot of modesty yet and has no hesitation to have you see him totally nude you should suggest that he needs to put on pjs etc and cover himself. Play to his ego. Say you are getting to be to big a young man for a girl to see your privates anymore. Also, while bathing boys from 6 to 10 hand them the soap and wash cloth and tell them to wash them selves down there. That is what nurses do in hospitals. These rules apply whether you are a boy or girl baby sitting a boy or girl. From 12 on you need to be sure that the young man is not trying to make a sexual move on you and get you to touch him so he can get more aroused. From 12 on send them to the bath and have them come down in their pjs and check ther ears to see if they are clean and wet. Good question. As for the erection they come and go at random and young boys really do not have control over them and they are best ignored.

I do hope you're talking about a small boy too young to bathe himself!
It's not so much a question of how old the girl or caregiver is, but how old the boy is. If they are simply not old enough to do it themselves, you'll need to help them. The good news is that if they are not old enough to do it themselves, they are not old enough to think of their erection in a sexual way.
Baby boys can get erections as soon as they are born. Sometimes it makes changing diapers challenging. I can barely keep a straight face when my 2 1/2 year old hides his penis under the bubbles of his bath and plays peek-a-boo.
The best thing to do is ignore it. Pretend you don't even notice. It's natural and unintentional and has nothing to do with you - it does that of its own accord in response to air, water, etc. the same way a girl's nipples will.
If it bothers you, just try to look at something else or play with a bath toy or something to keep your attention from it. It'll go down and be forgotten in a moment. Chalk it up to experience for if you ever have a baby son of your own.
Good luck!

Erections are normal so don't worry about that, all boys get them. By the time they are school age, kids shouldn't need much help with a bath. (maybe with shampooing & rinsing in a kindergarten/1st grader)

Erections start almost from birth, so that's normal. I don't think babysitters should be seeing boys of more than about 10 or 11 naked, as they are experiencing puberty and things like that get embarrassing.

I disagree with Cara. Babies often get spontaneous erections, as do little boys. It's not something that can be helped.
The age is iffy. My daughter is four, and I wash her hair and let her do everything else for herself. A four year old knows when she's clean. Mine does anyway. FOR THE RECORD, I STAY WITHIN EARSHOT OF THE BATHROOM. My daughter just wants her privacy. She's four going on thirty.

you know, that thing has a mind of it's own. Tell me, was the kid embarrassed, or was it just you? My best advice is, unless they're old enough to suggest you do something about "Mr. Stiffy", you need to finish up the bath, get 'em into the jammies with the feet in them and put them to bed. And quit blushing.

Its totally natural and normal thing to do. As long as the kid doesnt get embarressed than its fine. I remember once changing my cousins diaper and he started touching himself and I had to bite my lip in order not to laugh. Just try to keep a straight face so he will no thats nothings wrong with it and its normal, which it is.
