I have been offered an excellent and higher paying job at another company. I like my current place but pay difference is too great to turn down. When I explained this - my boss gave me a counter-offer that is equal to 50% of the pay difference.

I have heard that if you give your termination notice, and the current company makes you a counter offer which you accept (and stay) - it is something like 75% certain you will be gone (either quit again or get fired) from that company within 3-4 months. Has anyone heard anything like this?? If I decide to stay - what is the likelyhood I will leave (quit/get fired) int he next few months anyway???

I think you answered the question yourself already. It have also heard that you are more likely to leave after a counter offer as well..but I am not sure about the 3-4 month timeframe. I would not stay. You said the offer was excellent and your boss only countered 50% of the pay difference. If your boss really wanted you to stay, he/she would have offered the entire difference. Think about it. This is just my opinion, but if you want an employee bad enough you will at least match a counter offer. And I would think most bosses would exceed the offer. The previous poster might also be right...if you do stay..you may be working more and getting paid less if you dont take the offer. The boss will always keep an eye on you and may not trust you in the future. I would just go for the offer.

Best of luck in your decision.

My only prolem with your desicison is now the company you work for might it expect you to do more now that you have recieved a pay raise. You will be surprised how news spreads in a company that someone is getting paid more then the other person. When new gets out that you got a pay raise, don't be surprised to see your self doing more for the company which will probably lead to you quiting or getting fired.

If the old job is only offering 50% difference of the prospective new job...why are you hanging around the old job? Sounds to me like you may be on to something better anyway!

that is easily not incorrect to take the instructor's job, and stop immediately after. have faith me, if the employer desires to fireside you, they might do it with an hour. You quitting on them interior of two weeks is rather o.k.. in terms of the employer/worker etiquette, i've got faith you're able to tell the asap as your circumstances replace (ie, you have a sparkling job). interior of my artwork, the closest difficulty i've got considered is somebody coming in to our employer, left in 4 weeks, through fact he have been given a greater effective furnish from yet another employer. So there :)
