Yes as a matter of fact even if you are on a surge protector it will burn up you computer. Lightning has enough power on one strike to power Ny city for one week

Most definitely. In most cases its an overload that will fry the motherboard as well of most of the other circuits attached to the system. A surge protector can help some, however most of the time by the time the protector kicks off, the damage is already done. Best thing to do is unplug your system when the storm approaches. Always use a surge protector though, because even if your system isn't struck, an electrical surge in the line can cause damage.

Yes. Definitely. Especiallly if the lightning directy strikes it ;)
But the lighting may cause a power surge, and if you dont have a surge protector, your compy will go bye-bye.

specific. i understand somebody whose workstation blew its processor from a close-by lightning strike. present day chips are so small, and run on such minute quantities of electrical energy that the static on your pores and skin might blow them in case you touched them mutually with your bare hand. Lightning flashes have electric fields lowering from megavolts to not something over some tens of feet surrounding them, or perhaps even with the undeniable fact that a strike next on your place will possibly not harm you, except you have been status on a humid floor in bare feet, a distinction of hundreds of volts between one component of your workstation and the different ought to truthfully fry its chips.

Yes it can. If you have it hooked up to a phone line lighting can run through the line and blow your motherboard. So i would recommend that if you are worried about this get a surge protector that has the connection that you can have your phone line run through instead of your line going strait to your PC
