Don't apologize. Politics has nothing to do with the real world. Every time the Democrats get clocked, there are a multitude of articles about the end of the party. And now we are hearing this is the end of the Republican party.
HELLO! They are both wrong!
We won't get decent people in government until the American sheep wake up and realize the most important thing a politician has to do each day is work for his/her re-election. Everything else is a distant second.

Also, Americans often use sports terminology in describing opposing teams.

Yes, the Republicans were defeated...but the Conservatives weren't.
Of course, statistically speaking, 6th term presidents usually lose many seats in congress.
