I am a liberal who usually votes Democrat. I am not fond of the President nor have I been a supporter of Donald Rumsfeld. However, you are not looking at the basic facts here. Any cabinet member serves at the pleasure of the President. When that President says it's time for a cabinet member to go, then go he does. The President received a very clear message Tuesday. The voters and members of both parties wanted to see a new direction with our military and with the war. So a new direction we will have. If you follow the stories coming out now this is far less a Rumsfeld decision and far more a Presidential decision.
C=JD: Please do not generalize about all liberals based on a few.

Rumsfeld resigned honorably after doing his best in a difficult situation, and it was clearly timed so as not to have any effect on the elections. If he had resigned or been removed before the elections, Republicans would have done better at the polls, but there would have been the outcry by liberals that he resigned for that purpose. Now Bob Gates will do HIS best, and liberals will continue to complain.
If God came down to earth to take that lousy job, liberals would still complain.

Rumsfeld replaced into fired through fact he had misplaced appreciate of the protection rigidity. The Generals, the protection rigidity information papers, books approximately his loss of placed up-invasion making plans all meant that he could no longer effectively lead the protection rigidity to any extent further. If he had stayed, it would have persisted to spiral down, thoroughly killing the Republicans' possibilities in 2008 (worse than what got here approximately on Tuesday).

No - Rumsfeld is a civilian -GI's know better. Besides I don't think he "cut and ran." Don't you think that Bush asked for his resignation? I do. The Prez' 1st step toward placating the American public after the elections -- and a darn good one at that.

Rumsfeld knew that he would be made to leave and he didn't want to try to work with the democrats because he knew that he would lose anything that came at him.
we needed people like the Democrats in office 12 years ago.

Give it up, Bush is trying to do what the people want. A change in direction.
Stop bashing Bush and his moves, it is now time for the Dems to take some action and quit telling us how much Bush has messed up.

When Rumsfeld stays, he's averse to change and wrong.
When Rumsfeld leaves, he is "running."
I love how libs have their thinking structured so no matter WHAT a Republican does, he's always wrong, all of the time.

so you are going to complain about him in his position telling him to get out, and then when he steps down you will say he is a coward for leaving???? Liberals need stand for what they believe in, not jump on the fence when they want to be liked.
