When Bush expressed confidence in Robert Gates I cringed a bit remember such things as " great job Brownie".
Gates has a pretty good resume, and was briefly head of the CIA. What concerns me the most is Bush keeps bringing in people from past administrations. It causes me to wonder if he is unable to choose qualified people.

mutually as i do no longer think Obama ought to have any Republicans or Bush linked cabinet contributors, the reason at the back of the %. is obvious. Obama desires to make a secure transition on account that we are formally "at conflict" so conserving the Secretary of protection on till potential has been transferred makes desirable sense. Neocons won't be able to blame Obama if some thing happens early interior the Obama presidency by way of fact he maintained the status quo initially. And who's the fool who thinks Paul Volcker replaced right into a Reagan appointee? Jimmy Carter positioned him interior the Fed and Volcker is a Democrat. Geez!

Rumsfeld biggest mistake was that he fell out on favor with other military officials. When things needed to change he keep going ahead with the same strategy. If Gates can build better coalitions with his own people and other militaries, he will do a fine job. Plus, he has a background with intelligence management. May he can discover a better way to deal with the threat of new-age terrorism.

This new secretary has a lot of experience, and mistakes, so maybe he has learned a lot in his work and by his mistakes. Have to keep reasonable expectations as to what can be accomplished. Any small change just might lead to a solution, we can only hope.

Rumsfeld served his country well. If you want someone to blame for deaths in Iraq, blame Iran, Syria and al Qaeda.

If bush picked him we can only pray that this is one of his better decisions,But probably not. Things can only go better when we start new, fresh a clean slate.
