How much memory do you have??
Approximately how many songs is that??
I am looking at an affordable option for a Christmas gift but it has 512 MB of memory - is this good/average/bad??

Thanks in advance!

I have a 30gb Ipod 5th generation. What this means is I have an Ipod on which I can watch videos, play games, and listen to music. 30gb is a lot of memory. That's about 7,500 songs. The current price is $249 at the apple store. If you are a student, you can buy it for even cheaper with the academic discount.

Compared to the 30gb, 512MB seems pretty bad. But, believe it or not, 512MB holds plenty of songs. They are generally smaller, do not have big screens, and are harder to select individual songs. They are fairly priced, so, if money is a big issue, go for it, they're nice. If you have more money to spare, look to the 1GB to 4GB region. Those would be the average size nowadays.

Well 512MB memory isn't that much. It holds about 120 songs. When you purchase a MP3 player, you have to ask yourself, how many songs are you going to put on there? Do you have a HUGE collection of CDs? etc. If you're getting this for someone for Christmas, then you have to see how many CDs they have. Another thing to look for is battery life.

That's not very much memory.
