i want my nose pierced but i heard it has to be done with a needle and i know from previous piercings that when done this way they will usually use a bar or ring, i'd rather have a really small stud, will this be possible?

You should use a needle for all piercings. The gun is dangerous, unclean and overly/unnecessarily painful.

Quite often, I am asked that, and don't like to pierce with studs and I won't do it. The reason most piercers use a CBR (aka ring) is because its easier to clean and maintain, it won't fall out as easily as a stud. Most studs have small beads/gems that can become embedded into your nose and cause pain. After 6-8 weeks, you can go back and have them put a small stud in, that would probably be your best bet. For your nose's sake and for the purpose of good healing, get the CBR.

First it is illegal to pierce the nose with anything other then a clamp and a needle. It is necessary to have a ring in when you first get it pierced so that the medicine can get into the piercing itself. No good piercer will pierce you with a stud at first and if the piercer will, leave. After it heals you can put a stud in the piercing.

I got mine done with a stud, well it was a little silver ball.. They used a needle first, then put the ball in. call around, some places only use a ring, but a lot will do a stud.

I think Faerie is right on this one...I had my nose pierced almost 20 years ago and wear a stud most of the time (much more ladylike!), but when it's first done, a ring is much better as it helps the healing process. It is easier to turn as you would with 'sleepers' in your ear, which encourages the hole to remain open. It's difficult to regularly rotate a stud in your nose and therefore the piercing is more likely to heal / get infected.

It depends on where you go to get it done some places only use one type of ring while others places will let you choose. If where you want to go wont let you get it done with a stud you can always change it after it heals.

I think this is personal preference rather than fashion, you dont exactly see many models or famous fashion icon women going around with loads of body jewellery, personally i think all women should wear earings and i do like belly piercings though i think only for when you are fairly youngish like not on a 50 year old woman etc.
