you need to do a bunch of problems to get comfortable with formulas and with the math. just do all the problems in the back of the book and you'll be fine. if you're still having problems go see your professor or TA

Brute repetition will help for some. Writing the formulae a few dozen times is what got me through the ionic compounds.
Aside from that, you can make up a song about them, or some other sort of mnemonic device. Try to make some associations between the formuale and something you're already familiar with.
And do lots of practice problems.
