The only vein that seems to cooperate inside the elbows is the left arm. My doctor and a nurse tried my right arm in 4 different spots before having success in the vein on the top of my hand. Is there anything I can do to improve my veins to make this easier or am I stuck with getting stuck a lot?

They found a few good ones yesterday, but they seemed to roll and for whatever reaason they couldn't get the needle in to draw. I had to help with the one on my hand by flexing several times. I used to give blood and also platelet donations, but now I won't go anymore because I end up with huge bruises that stay for many days and sore arms to go with it.

If they want like four viles, they'll do all of them off of the equal draw - nevertheless if you're going to 1 workplace within the AM and getting a draw, after which yet another within the PM for a draw, probabilities are they'll use the extraordinary arm. The rule is that they are able to stick you within the arm up prime (reverse of elbow), and in the event that they cannot get it there they are able to transfer to wrist, then to the hand. But say for instance they began with the hand - they cannot then cross and take a look at up greater at the arm. This is since after they stick you to get the vein to self-praise they use the elastic tie for your arm, and in the event that they tie it above an discipline that has already been punctured just lately the puncture can holiday and begin bleeding once more inflicting bruising, and so forth. Basically - you'll be able to traditionally anticipate all of it being off of the equal stick - nevertheless when you have 2 appointments for the duration of the day, they'll on the whole use the opposite arm, or transfer to the hand or wrist of the equal arm. Hope this is helping, and does not confuse.

I also have this problem, usually ending up with a ruptured blood vessel in both arms before they finally go the the back of my hand. I believe this is something you are born with, and I always tell my phlebotomist the problem before they start sticking me. You do not have to allow them to try multiple times before using the hand. Remember, its your body, and you are paying them for this service. Tell them you will allow them to try one time in each arm, and then they are to move to your hand. Or just take it from the hand from the start. But we are not pin cushions, no matter how good they think they are at "hitting the vein." Sometimes my vein will collapse while they are drawing the blood. Then they roll the needle around looking for the vein again. This hurts more then on little stick in my hand, and I usually end up with a large lump afterward. After a few times of this I became very persistent on how my blood is drawn.
