Before getting married my wife decided to go on Birth Control Pills, however the side effects were unbarable for her to last the "3 month hump". Her doctor said it was most likly to much Hormons for her small frame. I know they now have Low Dose pills and Patches(i think) have any ladies experience similar problems? Any success stories?
Thx

I had problems taking Depo Provera and I'm 5'1 (at the time I weighed about 110 lbs). I switched to the pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclin) and the side effects cleared up (I had big mood-swings, weight gain, generally didn't feel well). From what I hear the Patch has even more hormones in it than a pill, I don't know that would be good for her either.

She might want to switch to a non-hormonal BC method like a Copper IUD.

I have a small frame and I never had that problem with the Pill. Her doctor is full of crap. My doctors never said anything like that to me (I have had two since being on the pill) when prescribing me the pill.

The side effects usually go away within 6 months after starting the pill. Also, taking the low dose pills has about the same side effects, but they go away in about the same time period after starting them. She can take her pills with milk to alleviate the nausea.

I have been taking the low-dose pills for 9 years, but that's not why I am taking them. It is due to my age and the heart.

The pills actually do have different effects based on weight. Overweight women do have a higher rate of contraceptive failure, for example.

That said, there are lots of women of all heights who have strong reactions to the pill. My 5'8 muscular semipro hockey player friend had incredible nausea when she tried to go on it, and there are millions of petite women who take oral contraceptives without trouble. To say "Oh well, it's your small frame" is dismissive and very likely incorrect.

There's not a low-dose patch out there that I know of, but there are several low-dose pill options, some of which are in the link below. I personally take Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo, and love it to pieces.

I'm 5'2" and I took Try-cyclen birth control with few side effects. But I think allwomen are different and what works for me might not work for her. She needs to speak to her doc, maybe she can switch pills or try something else. Good luck!

Height has got nothing to do with it or else Indian women and chinese women would never be advised to go on pills, it is normal for some women to feel a little uncomfortable, but most women just get adjusted with time,or they switch pills, in your case I strongly advise you switch doctors pronto.
