why is it if you type * (then atleast 2 digit number) # it says requesting then requesting denied?

These are called USSD codes. Some codes are recognised by the handset (well only 06 - this gives the phone's IMEI number)

Other codes are sent to the network. It depends on the network as to what numbers are supported.

The requesting is the phone waiting for the response. The denied is the negative response from the network. Either the number isn't recognised as belonging to a service or you are not allowed that service.

Cos some services are accessed that way for instance on my network if I type *#100# then it shows up my account balance!!
