It is up on the wall, about a foot from the ceiling. It's the same size and shape as a lightswitch or outlet, but has no buttons or switches. It almost looks like a little speaker, but it's not the smoke detectors and we don't have a doorbell. Does anyone know what this is? It's really bugging me.

Possible just a connecting box. Maybe on the outside of the wall there is a light or something. Nothing I would worry about. If you are though you could unscrew it and see what's behind it.

someone might have had one of those wall mounted light fixtures up there at one time and took it with them.
if it was me and there are screws holding the plate up I would jut un-screw it and take a look.

It could be where a switch or plug once was and they disconnected it and put a solid plate over it. Ask your manager/landlord.

Could it be for your TV or satelite. Or something to that extent.
