Yep they are, just make sure they are specifically prenatal vitamins!

I actually don't know of any women who are taking prescribed prenatal vitamins. I think for otherwise healthy women, over-the-counter vitamins are perfectly adequate. I know a lot of pregnant women (and their care providers) have had good things to say about the Target brand prenatal vitamins. Perhaps they are prescribed when there is insurance coverage in place that will pay the entire cost, but I can't think of another reason to justify writing a script for one when a brand recommendation would suffice.

I was just doing some research on this yesterday. I went out and bought a store bought brand until I can get to my doctor. It seems they both have the same ingredients just that some of levels of each vitamin are higher inthe prescribed brands.

If you choose a store bought brand as did I, you will have to supplement a couple of the vitamins. I know thre isnt enough vitamin C or iron in the store bought ones, so you'll have to supplement those by either buying them seperately or compensating for them in your diet. All the other ingredients seem to be almost equivalent.

Good luck!

My coverage did no longer pay for the prenatal supplements, the two, so I paid for them out-of-pocket yet ended up no longer taking them because of the fact i could no longer get them down... the main inexpensive selection is probable ingesting ideal yet different than that, i think of shop bought prenatal supplements are only as stable because of the fact those prescribed via the OB. i did no longer take any prenatal supplements while i replaced into pregnant and the two my toddlers have been born wholesome. I did put in an extra attempt to consume ideal, however, and that i did no longer smoke nor did I drink alcohol.

yeah, theyre the same.

Always keep regular multivitamins hanging around.

At some point you'll end up so freaking constipated from all the iron and calcium in the prenantal that you'll want to switch back.

Prenatals are really only good for mom, they dont do anything for baby. You baby will leech whatever it needs from your body whether you have eaten it or not. Even so much as you take the calcium it needs from your teeth. Whats important, as far as folic acid and calcium, is what you got BEFORE you were pregnant. The ovum and embryo use the most of folic acid before you even know your pregnant.

All that said, you have higher needs to certain vitamins when pregnant, and theyre easier to get from your prenatal, this ensures that there is enough for your body to replenish what the baby takes.

Hope that helps. I just went through all this with my doctor a few weeks ago :)

Personally I went to my health food store and got food based prenatals instead of chemical based (perscribed) prenatals. I prefere to take the least amount of chemicals as possible. Also the food based prenatals are the only ones that didn't make me sick.

Sure they are....They're just more expensive than if you had insurance or medical...
Just make sure they're prenatal. Not just a multi vitamin...
You need those extra things like iron, etc.
Happy pregnancy! ! !

They are all the same and its not true that you only need the folic acid and calcium before you get pregnant in your last trimester you need it the most and so does the baby. But it doesnt matter how expensive or cheap they are you get the same
