Poverty? No. Ignorance? Yes, in part. I believe it's a mixture of ignorance and brainwashing. Most are bred to be a terrorist at a very early age. Liberty is neither a choice or an option. They do as they are told and are only given access to materials that reaffirm their terrorist teachings.

If you place a person in isolation for a long time ... perhaps from birth .. where you control all the information, and all the outside influence. You can create a person who believes what ever you have installed in their little head ..... Now you know the way to build a terrorist !
Just tell them the great Satan is to blame for all the evil in the world today ... and point to a flag or a person you wish to have the hatred identified with .... poof your got a radical nut job !
Poverty .... rich people hate too,
Ignorant .... stupid people hate,
but it takes a plan to make a terrorist ... a real wacky hell bent plan.
Find the programmer ...... dismantle his teachings & students ... no more nut jobs !

I think that the equation is a little off.
It is "poverty + (hopelessness + frustration) = terrorism"
Removing just one of those things would change the landscape considerably. But how are we going to do that when we can't do that within our own country? I mean, let's look at the gangs within the cities of this country, and then look at the militias in our country, and the "hate crime" perpetraitors. All of these are a form of terrorism, and they all are very prevelant in our country. And you want us to stop international terrorism? That is something each country has to strive to do, and only when that is done, will this totally rid the world of "terrorism".

I don't believe that is what makes up terrorism at all. I think for the most part, it's when someone is convinced that their Lord will be happy for what they are doing that they are willing to kill others in order to be rewarded. Just a little bit of brainwashing in there.

More than anything else, it's a sequence. Ignorance promotes fear, fear spawns hatred, hatred engenders malice, malice gives way to terrorism.
Usually, lack of information would accompany one's lack of belief in that field. From there, if the person saw his or her belief to be of no foundation, the person becomes afraid. In fearing the circumstance, the person develops a hatred of it, and quite naturally would want it gone, hence the malice. In wanting it gone, the person does whatever they can to get rid of it. In our case, Bin Laden's fear of our political power became his drive to kill as many as possible, which became the latest form of terrorism.

1.) Constitutional changes that severely limit freedoms, civil rights, guarantees of habeas corpus, and remove a citizen's protections from unfair treatment by government...
2.) Legislation that threatens the judiciary, and holds them accountable for their legal decisions, easily manipulating those decisions
3.) minimizing congressional oversight of the executive office
4.) minimizing congressional powers, and passing those powers onto the executive (president)
5.) the executive branch taking 100% control of the armed forces
6.) the power of FEMA to become our totalitarian government, beyond congressional oversight, if the President declares a national emergency
7.) the power of the executive to point his finger at ANY AMERICAN CITIZEN and dub him an "enemy combatant", thus outside of our judicial system
8.) a Washington-based think tank called PNAC (Project for a New American Century) whose founders installed themselves in the top key positions in our government, thereby effecting a silent coup, a government takeover
= political terrorism, our country, our citizens, and our constitution being attacked by our own government

there could be many reasons for that but the main ones are social in-equality, injustice, religious hatred (preached by few ppl from all religions), sense of being superior from others. beside solve the burning issues like -israel/palestine -kashmir (india/pak) -genocides in africa -iraq and afghanistan also end injustice and discrimination. reduce the gap between rich and poor. reform UN, and give every country equal power. remove veto power. -give rights to minorities where ever they are, what ever religion they are from -all the countries of world should stop interfering in matters of other countries when these issues are resolved, terrorist would be widout any cause to fight!

Osama is not poor, and himself and his inner circle are well educated, holding at least BA, BS Masters, and PhD's.
Terrorism is political violence, pure and simple. Chomsky is a big fan of terrorism.

thats an interesting formula, but i think with terrorism there has to be an element of anger in there somewhere. not all poor people are angry, but terrorists are all angry at someone or some regime. i cant say that i fully agree with you, but its a valid point.
