Ok, babies need to stay on formula until they are one year of age or have the ok from the Doctor. Once they are one they drink whole milk because they need the fat and extra vitamins in whole milk. Doctors will usually tell you to switch to 2% when they turn two years of age.

A baby gets all the nutritional components it needs from formula, until 1 year old. You can introduce milk as a drink, but not to replace the formula. You can give her yogurt and other milk products between 8-12 months. Here's a passage from the Feeding and Nutrition Guide: "Once all food groups are introduced, offer plain yogurt (>3.25% fat), cottage cheese or other cheeses. Start with grated cheese, then progress to cheese cubes. 2-4 tbsp daily". You can also give yogurt with fruit after all food groups are introduced. Astro Bio Best yogurt contains the Omega 3 fatty acids which is really great! I have a soft copy of the Feeding and Nutrition Guide if you would like me to email it to you. Good luck!

The doctor says a year old but I started giving my daughter milk when she was about 11 months, just every now and then so she could get used to it, and it wouldnt be such a big change for her. And by the way what is 3% milk Ive never heard of it, I have 2%.

In my "baby handbook" received from the Public health department, there's sample menu's for each month of age, and in here it has WHOLE milk given between 10-12 months of age.
I too have never heard of 3% milk.

I agree with Fallon V. I have run a daycare for 30 years and we have to take Food workshops during the year. Kids need the fat in whole milk for brain development. At the daycare we are required to serve whole milk. If we don't we can get in trouble with the state.

They recommend that they be a year old. Babies digestive systems can't break down the enzymes in milk until they are a year old.
