Of course you are scared--you have every right to be especially when so much hatred is directed toward gays and lesbians in this society.

First, I suggest you visit the PFLAG site and see if you can go to some meetings at your local chapter (I'll provide the link below). Next, before disclosing, be sure that you have social and economic support--it is, unfortunately, not unusual for some families to respond by kicking out the child from their home. Third, make sure you choose a time that will not be interrupted and is private. Talk to them frankly and honestly. Lastly, this may or may not be a shock to them; however, they will need time to adjust to the news--you've been struggling with the issue for a while before disclosure, they will need time to process the information. I suggest that they get support from PFLAG, too, if they want it.

All the best to you.

How old are you? You might want to wait if your still living under there roof. It also depends on the relationship you have with them. Are you closer to one than the other. Can you talk better with your mom or dad? You have to be careful with your feelings, If they react poorly you cant take it personal. It just the initial shock of things. Time usually will have them come around. Are they really Religious?

If they don't already suspect that your Gay

if you have good reason to be afraid might be better not to. if they are generally understanding and reasonable, then better to tell them outright. Refer them to PFLAG site, or gather info for them off there before you do it.

I would start with learning to spell it, so if you happen to write a note, they'd know what you're talking about.

First, it's spelled gay. Second, if you're over 18 you don't need their permission. Just talk to them.
