We could play a game of free association by saying, ok I'm going to say a word and then you say the first word that comes to your mind. So I begin with garage and you reply door. You've then freely associated the word door with garage. It can also imply voluntary choice, but in life, nothing's ever free. If it doesn't cost money it usually takes it's toll on the mind.
