Team owner John York has just announced that the 49ers have given up stadium plans to build at Candlestrick Point, but is now looking into building in Santa Clara. The team will still be called the San Francisco 49ers.

Candlestick is a very old stadium and if they were going to try upgrading it, it would probably cost as much or more than a new stadium. It sounds like they are moving to Santa Clara, but they'll probably keep the San Francisco name just like the Giants and Jets kept the New York portion of their name when they moved to New Jersey.

I love the "Stick" and the "49ers"; and I'm devastated that the fond memories of seeing them together will be lost. Its just not the same. I hope that perhaps that San Francisco City Officials and the John York can work things out. Having the 49ers play in Santa Clara, will not produce any better results for the fans and their family members. It was a trill to drive up to the "City" or cross one of the bridges to see a football game. I remember so many times showing up earlier for restaurants, shopping, and after wards the bars. Santa Clara, just doesn't have the same feel.

Sounds like they will keep the SF 49er name. Also they have been trying to work a new stadium deal at Candlestick site, just the dollars don't seem to fit. Can't blame them, they have to upgrade to bring in the revenue.

If they move ill be good if they don't ill be OK too,things can't be any worst for them than they already are. so i think either way ill be interesting to wait and see what happens.
