It's never exact. Even when they measure your fundal height, it's an estimate. They base your pregnancy on the first day of your last period. Count 40 weeks and that's your due date. The fundal height and scans for measurement all estimate and should be around wherever you are according to your due date. It's common for your doctor to set your due date forward or more so back a couple weeks. It's all estimates, just keep that in mind.

Actually, it CAN be off a bit. When I went for my first scan we aproximated that I was 6 weeks along but then when I went for my 5 month scan we realized we'd been a bit off and my due date was bumped up by nearly 2 weeks.

I question those Estimated Due Dates they get from ultrasound...when I was pregnant with my daughter I had one date figured based on my last period...but when they did the ultrasound they pushed the date back saying I wasnt as far along as I thought...well- I ended up having her 2 1/2 weeks early...which is what I originally calculated anyway....so, who knows?

It is not "exact" and the doctor will tell you that. But it is pretty close maybe a few days off!! They can pretty much tell how far along you are by the development of the fetus.

They take the date of your last period, look at the development of the fetus on the scan, test your blood and/or urine and determine the due date and if the baby is developing normally. It is very exact, of course there can be surprises.

They are usually pretty close. When I found out I was pregnant...I was already 9 weeks. I thought I was only 6 weeks, based on when I thought my last period was!! Of course...I dont write that stuff down!!! The ultrasound is usually pretty accurate in measurements.

Congrats!!! :)

They are never exact but it gives the doctor an idea based on the length of the spine and the circumference of the head, also what organs are developed.

It's not an exact science. They go by standards, but just as people grow at different rates after birth, they grow at different rates in gestation. It is possible to be off a week or two. (or more)

Yeah, most of the time is is pretty exact. When they perform an ultrasound, they are measuring different parts of the baby....therefore, they are able to tell how old exactly the baby is by the measurements of it's brain, limbs, etc.

no its stupid, cause when i found out i was pregnant i was really only 4 weeks. they told me i was 7. my due date according to the doc was April 21 i had my baby march 26. he had no signs of being pre-mature. and yes the do measure the baby but remember each baby is different. their not going to grow all the exact same.
