The old ones are great. I notice how you only mention 1 American show being the old ones! We didn't watch much American programmes years ago it was all British. I don't mind some of the American shows it's just the laughter seems to be too fake and the punchlines too often. I love the old stuff the Cosby Show was great fun and I love Are you being served. I'd like to point out you forgot my fav one of all times, Fawlty Towers. Loved that show really made me laugh and the humour was so clever and really worked well. John Cleese was total genius. I think peoples humour has changed too. People don't laugh at the same things anymore and I think we are getting to a stage where comedy is delivered on a plate and with the old comedies there was a punchline which you had to think about and then you'd laugh rather than instant laughter. It seems we want everything in an instant! Keep on watching the comedy and if you haven't seen Fawlty Towers please watch it! Fav comedy ever!

The older ones - but then, I grew up with the really older ones like, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Lucy Show. The 50's were a simpler time, and comedy so much different than even the good shows that came later, like Cosby. Comedies today rely SO heavily on sexual humor and tension that they aren't appropriate for anyone under 18. Even then, they aren't really funny. The other thing that is prevelant in today's comedies is the characterization of parents as being moronic.
Neither the sexual nature nor the dumbing down of parents makes for good comedy for family viewing. In the past, comedies and documentaries were family time. Now, there is very little that can be considered family fare. Sad.

Loved the Cosby Show and Waiting for God was hilarious. Also loved Cheers, The Golden Girls, Porridge, The Upper Hand, No Place Like Home (remember that with Anton Rodgers?) So I guess I loved the old comedies best.
The only new comedy that I find funny now is The Green Wing

That is a hard question, I really like the old comedies and the new ones. I guess if I had to choose, I would pick the new ones. What about you?

I like a lil of both. But the best comedy so far would have to be Ugly Betty. It's the funniest in years, even better than that crap show Seinfeld.

i personally like the newer comedies, eg. scrubs, because i can relate to them more, the older ones appeal more to the older generations, like my gran - not that i don't think the older ones are funny, and i do appreciate the comedy, its a bit passe, not as side splitting as the new comedy, its perhaps slightly more conservative if you like!
