yes they do have more power than they advertise. since 9-11 the government has passed things such as "The Patriot Act" and "terror Watch". Terror Watch allows the government to essentially spy on law abiding citizens when that is forbidden in the constitution. The Patriot Act allows the government to tap phone lines and check phone records on again law abiding citizens and the ability to search cars, homes and businesses without a warrent which is also contradictory to the writting of the constitution.

ah .thanx for pointing out TV.i GOT RID OF MINE 6 years ago.As a result I am so much aware of the "programming' that is on there and how it controls our consumer society.
The govt ,thru censorship is ultimately responsible for the kaleidoscope of images that are fed to us 24/7.
That IS power
And the drugs that are in this country.Well that is a farce if there ever was one.Syndicates like the hells angels are alowed to operate VIRTUALLY UNMOLESTED ,make tons of cash and nothing goes on about really except some window dressing trials occasionally. Why does any govt allow their continued existence?
So here we are policing the world when we cant even police our own country.............That is power gone astray.More than most wish to think about or admit.
Forget the freakin Taliban and Quaeda. The drug lords are screwing us over worse tha any terrorist. And the govt lets it happen.
How is this for a suggestion.Guilty by association. If you are a member of a syndiacte you go to Jail for life.Period.If you associate with a syndicate member.the same.
Thsi will never happen because IT ISNT IN THE INTEREST OF PEOPLE WHO GOVERN OUR COUNTRY

Of Course.
Most people do not see or hear about all the Laws that get signed. The news only states the top ones. These little laws that get passed all day every day affect our lives a lot more that you think. Politicians dream up these laws and then push them through so that they get the Predidents backing. Hundreds come across his desk in a week. It is sign sign sign. Some are dumb things like build a bridge around the water hole so the people in Kansas dont scare the frogs. Our tax moeny pays for it too.
Another dirty little secret is each Senator is doing everything in there power to get money for their state. Any way they can. Money for roads, new shopping centers, extra runways at airports, new lodge at national park, help for dying trees, and on and on. In order to get this money (so the people of the state vote them in again) they make deals. I will support this law or your agenda for the 1 million for my state.
You shake my hand, I shake yours.
The government is too powerful (a chosen few). We are fastly becoming a Police State. Too many laws govern us instead of us governing ourselves.

They probably have more power than they themselves realize.
Alexis DeTocqueville observed that the US would remain free until the politicians learned to bribe the People with their own money.
We've actually gone beyond that point, the People themselves have learned it and come to expect and depend on it.
With that kind of power, they can do anything they want, as long as they do it to a few of us at a time.

Yes, I think they do. There is so much they do that they don't tell us. The government has become so large and has so many people working for them in so many different branches that they can hide things fairly easily. They also spend a great deal of money that they could easily write off to something else and we (citizens and taxpayers) wouldn't be any wiser to it.

Isn't everything in this country controlled by some form of government and or their rules? The government has a hand in all, either directly or indirectly.
