My son’s 7th grade class read HOOT by Carl Hiaasen last year. The boys loved it.

My child’s also a fan of anything by Louis Sachar. He liked HATCHET by Gary Paulsen too.

If into sports, check out the Chip Hilton series, and even though he might be getting a bit too old, Matt Christopher's books are still pretty popular.
If into Fantasy, The Inheritance trilogy (Eragon, Eldest), Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or The Faerie Wars seem widely read
Otherwise boys usually like Gary Paulsen, or Jack London

I have a lot of good ideas for you, I am 13 and in 8th grade so I know what you mean. First of all, one of my favorite authors is Cathy Cassidy. Check out "Dizzy", "Scarlett", and "Indigo Blue." Dizzy and Scarlett both have a fair amount of romance (you'll fall in love with Finn and Kian, Finn is my personal favorite), but it's not exactly like twilight. If you feel like laughing, check out Lauren Myracle's books, especially "Eleven", "Twelve", and "Thirteen", which are about being 11, 12 and 13. I don't know if this is what you were thinking of, but one of the best books I have read is "The Book Theif" by Markus Zusak. You may have already read this, but the City of Ember series is great. There are four books. Anahita's Woven Riddle is a book combining culture and romance. It's not my favorite but you might like it. If you feel like being really *deep* then you can try Life of Pi, but that doesn't sound like what your talking about. The Blind Faith Hotel, a great book and it has romance. Once Upon a Marigold is good, it's mainly about romance but in a funny sort of way. Then, for fantasy/romance, try Stardust, which is also a movie but I don't think many people have read the book. A great mystery book, probably a little below your level but one I could read a billion times, is The Shakespeare Secret. Ok. So you can see I get really carried away when recomending books but whatever, I hope this helped!!!!! As you can see I get a

What are his interests? Most boys love non-ficition books and adventure books. I would suggest maybe gettiing him a Barnes and Noble giftcard with a book of your choice that you liked as a child (The Chronicles of Narnia, etc.). Middle school aged children like to pick out stuff on their own.

The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, are all a good place to start.
