Why do you think that? The only way to know for sure is to ask the employer that didn't hire you, if he called the old employer for a reference and got a bad one. If that's the case then you will have to leave that employer off your resume'. That will also cause a problem because the new employer will want to know where you worked before. Sorry it's a bad situation.
Cappy, you CANNOT file suit just because a former employer gives you a bad reference. Maybe you were a bad employee.

For time being, look out for an option to work online, after couple of month you start it from fresh. By that time, he will also get cooled off. I would like to share a link where you can make $600 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting a discussion and answering a discussion. the link is:
http://tinyurl.com/yhzzph
if you will work hard you can even make $1000-$1500 or more.. it all depends on your usage pattern. I worked for 1 hour daily last month and i got paid $238 for the last month. Its not bad after all, i am happy and making more. After sign up, do mail me to know the tips on how to increase your earning.
Please let me know, if you have any queries. I will try my best to give you right answer

Not sure why you think that but if you have proof, you can file suit and probably won't need a job for awhile...>!!

If you know someone who's a manager who will help you, have them call the company as if they are doing a reference check. Then you'll know :-)
