congress's solution was to stop doing audits.

well in every single audit they have been unable to account for where all of the money is going. it's in the constitution that all spending is to be accounted for. the defense budget is to my knowledge is the only one that has systematically failed to meet this constitutional requirement. billions of dollars flyimg around they don't know where it's going.

I hope that is one of the things that will change now.

They also tried to form a committee on the conduct of the war.
This is something they've always done going back to the revolutionary, Harry Truman became well known as the Chairperson of this for WW2.
Well, this committee got voted down 52-48, the GOP voted 52-1 against it, Lincoln Chafee RI being the only GOP in favor of it.
The GOP doesn't want all the corruption by contractors coming out, its their friends makin a lot of dough.
Just like Bush tried to stop the formation of the 9/11 commission
Hopefully now some of the truth will come out

YES. Maybe if it did get audited, we'd actually find out how much we were spending on war and how little we are actually paying for welfare and social service programs.

Billions of dollars floating around..believe me, they know where it's going. Straight to Halliburton and the companies that have contracts in the middle east

And just to address chrissy...DUHHHH, I was talking about the budget for welfare/social services as compared to the defense budget. It would be nice to see how the two compare, but thanks for your input.

yes it bothers me because i want proof my tax dollars that i'm told are going to help support our troops... (better armoured vehicles, better equipment etc) are actually doing just that. I'm in the military and though its a comfortable salary we make it IS not by any means something to brag about. we should be spending every dime i that budget to ensure our troops come home safely to their families. by the way well-fare money doesn't (and shouldn't) come out of the DEFENSE budget... just to let you people know

No more than if it was audited that every covert operation's details would soon appear in the NY Times and on CNN.

The same could be said about every part of government. BTW audits are not 'pass/fail.'
