Stephen King is the better author, in my opinion. Dean Koontz seems to be always wanting a happy ending

No doubt about it Dean Koontz is better
Although, Stephen King is a very close second.

King has the best of the gore in his stories along with the graphic descriptions. Koontz has the more involved storylines that never seem to unfold and make any sense until the latter part of the book. Honestly, I am torn but I would have to say Koontz because of his use of the supernatural and more complex intricasies of the characters in his stories.

I would definately have to say Dean Koontz. I have read all of his books that are currently available (he has many that are nearly impossible to get) The longest it has taken me to complete any of his books is 2 days, most I read in one sitting because they get to the point quickly and keep me interested. Stephen King tends to go into too much detail for my taste he describes things in so much detail that he leaves little to the imagination and makes reading slower. I have started a few of King's books and have finished none.
My favorite Koontz book is a tossup between Whispers and Door to December.

Stephen King is by far a better author. Sometimes Koontz's writing has a certain soap opera feel to it - not my kinda thing. King's stuff is not only top quality writing, it also translates well into movies etc.

I like Stephen King's style better... I don't know where he gets his ideas but he's written some awesome books. It's harder for Dean Koontz to hold my interest.

I love them both, but I have to give the edge to Stephen King because he writes the way people think and it isn't always a perfect happy ending, more realistic. "The Stand" by Stephen King is probably my favorite book of all time.
