pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

A lot of ASian-American Buddhist have no problem saying "Under God" but why are all the Jews complaining?

I doubt Bush could pronounce all the words correctly and I have no idea why some Jewish people are complaining

Because the orginal pledge of allegiance goes like this.

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and (to*) the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
-1892

And then a Christian group had to add the phrase "Under God" in 1952.

So first of all, Buddhism is a way of life and does not correlate with the belief or non belief of a god. They dont worship a God through Buddhism.

Secondly, why do you say all the Jews are complaining, or better, why do you only limit it to Jews and not all those that don't see it as right.

Thirdly, pledging to a country is acceptable because if you are to live in the USA, then you should take part in its existance. It is a different matter for God because that is saying all athiests are not patriotic.

Sure, the country was founded by Christians but the Constitution calls for separation of Church and State.

I'm dwelling schooled, but if I was once in university we recited each and every morning. The Pledge Of Allegiance and The Star Spangled Banner.I didn't like doing it,most effective since I received worried status up and making a song, however each person did,and I was once no longer heard making a song in my low voice.

The "under God" portion is a late add-on, during Eisenhower's time to fight the scourge of Communism.

We seemed to work pretty well for some time without it in the Pledge

The Jewish people are not complaining, it's the Godless liberals who seem to be terribly offended by the words.

I dunno, but this pic of Daschle was funny. The site says it's "doctored" - maybe it is, but why pick on Daschle? I tend to believe he used the wrong hand - after all, he probably hadn't said the pledge for 35 years before this pic was taken.
