I saw this procedure on google video, a doc performing a cesarian, instead of cutting the muscles, he just pulled them apart, seperated them and held them out of the way... why do the docs have to actually cut them?

is this something that can be requested like... I want to be cut horizontally instead of vertically, and I want my muscles seperated instead of cut, and I want disolvable sutures instead of staples

Many drs. do seperate the muscles but in an emergency situation or by the preference of some old-fashioned drs the muscles must be cut.

well, they had to cut me, my incision was vertical because i had twins though. I guess it depends on your situation. if you are considering a cesarian, talk to your doctor about all the options. he/she will probably suggest the least invasive options first. and if there is no emergency, you should be able to get the technique you prefer.

I know for a fact that they still use staples, the disolvable sutures are for the internal incisions. Don't worry about the staples though, they dont hurt when they put them in, you will be numb, and taking them out won't hurt that much, at least if you keep them clean. it just feels like a pinch.

thats a good question , check with your doc, see what he/she says . .. I had my c-section in Jan 06 , an i had dissovable sitiches , i dont think they use staples anymore. An 99% of C-sections now are horizontal.

doubt it. they cut them so they can get the uterus out. they use disolveable sutures inside but on the outside they arent strong enought to hold so they use staples. so you think you can tell your doctor how to do his job good luck there. he went to med school not you trust him and let him do his job the right way

Sounds like a very new procedure. Talk to your Dr. to see if they can do this. I think most incisions for c-sections ARE horizontal...
