Here in the US you can look up address with a phone number by doing a reverse search. I'm getting prank phone calls coming from the UK and it's on my caller ID. I will not call them, but would like to find out the address where its coming from. Is that possible to do in UK as it is poss. in the US.

Put the number on the net and say its a free sex chat line, that should keep them busy for a bit.

No, I'm afraid you can't do a reverse search in the UK - you need to know the name of the person and the address before you can get the telephone number - this is as a result of the data protection legislation. Sorry!

No such thing as a reverse directory in the UK I'm afraid.

If the first number after the country code is 7 or 07, it's a mobile number, which is even more impossible to trace.

If it's not, then you can pin it down to the city or area by the area code.

I'm in the UK and have never heard of any way of being able to find out an address with just a number. Even if you have someone's address it isn't always possible to access their home number as lots of people are ex directory. As far as I know there is no phonebook or similar for mobile numbers either. All I can suggest is that you contact your service provider and either get our number changed or their number blocked from calling you. Good luck getting it sorted!

Got this from a site: There is no online way of finding who owns a UK phone number. 192.com used to sell a CD-ROM that did it, but they are no longer worth visiting. For mobile phones, due to privacy laws, there is no way of doing this in the UK. If they are harassing you, contact your phone company or police.

Maybe you should publish the number that's harassing you and someone from UK would be bold enough to call that number there and see what's up.

yes i think you need to call your service provider and tell them you are getting prank calls... they may or may not be able to tell you the address of this person as that infringes on our data protection act so you will not be authorised to find out those details... they may however tell you the rough area, for example... and address in london or leeds...

the data protection acts maybe different over there but you are unable to trace the calls over here unless you have access for legal reasons or the matter concerns your own phone (which you will be asked details about)

hope that helps and good luck, if in doubt just bar the number from calling you...

usually works!

sorry i couldnt be of more help!

What a pain, your stalker is sure going to a lot of trouble to harrass you. Money to burn huh?

There isn't a way of tracking down addresses from phone numbers over here but I liked the idea (previously) of posting their number online as a sex chat service. Although its quite mean...

Sorry but it is not possible to my knowledge, you can ring BT though and ask them to block that number from ringing you.Contact them on www.bt.com.
The only other thing that I did once when my mother got prank calls, was to by a VERY LOUD whistle.
When they rang, I just blew it as hard as I can down the receiver.
They never rang again.

BT, the main telco provider in the UK, only allow you to do this if you know the address as well as the phone number

Usually when phoning abroad it says or states International call. To be honest i didn't know that you could see numbers when phoning abroad on home phones. It might be best to call your operator and have this number barred from your phone.

No it's not.

We in the Uk have a "withheld number" policy where it is impossible for people to trace their abuser if they withhold their number.

But you could try to contact the police because they have ways of tracking these weirdos down in the UK.

Or we can change our number.
