I think that you are taking it all too seriously. The English have the sort of sense of humour that takes the mickey out of certain other countries and themselves. It's generally meant in a light hearted way; not designed to cause offence. Perhaps Yahoo Answers ups the ante a tad at times, but it's still (in most cases) just fun.

Well first of all, could you try and control the interesting use of capitalisation in your questions? It makes it very difficult to read.

I am English, I live in France and have lived in many countries thus far. I do not like nor do I dislike ANY race in particular. I have always considered people to be individuals worthy of independent value.

Consider this, when British people comment that they "Don't like Yanks" or "I can't stand Americans". How many of them have been there? America's reputation is put forward primarily by the media and the tourists. American tourists have a lot to answer for in this regard.

Last year I visited Montserrat near Barcelona in Spain. This is one of the holiest places is Christendom according to the Spanish. I, not being a Christian, did not see it as being exceptionally "Holy" but it is without doubt, beautiful and awe inspiring. The views are again, without doubt, the best I have yet come across in my world travels.

I give this example because of the Americans that travelled up the mountains with us, only one had no problem with the lack of a fast food restaurant. The rest complained bitterly at 'having' to eat the bistro food that was provided. Two of the Americans travelling with us asked the same question several times because they could not understand the simple answers that they were given.

These tourists were by no means indicative of all Americans, but it is from them that most Europeans find out about so called 'real Americans' and thus the die is cast.

It is a sad fact but it is nonetheless true as the American Government have admitted. They have even had to issue a booklet advising US Citizens on how to behave whilst in Europe.

I have met many civilised Americans, particularly visitors to my gentleman's club in London, that would raise the bar on many British people's idea of what makes an American but sadly it is not they that are seen by the populace at large, rather it is the boorish, uncommunicative, unintelligent, overweight American that the English see as the American "Norm".

Long winded perhaps, but I hope that answers your question.

What is a pom? Any way many English do not like Americans because they are so loud, obnoxious and love to hear their voice. I was in the oldest pub in England a few years ago and it is rather small, some Americans came in shouting and saying it must be bigger. I find this quite disrespectful it is nearly 1000 years old if he wants big he should go back to America. Saying that I have many American friends at Uni and they are really nice :o)

I'm British and proud of my heritage. I have no problem with Americans or any other nationality, creed or colour. The way I look at things is I speak as I find but without generalization. I'm sure there are ignorant people within every nationality! I have 2 young children and intend to raise them wih the same values. X x X

We love Americans when we meet them because the ones who travel here are not the norm and clearly admit that the rest of the world exists.

Most Americans don't even realise that Iraq was not responsible for the towers collapse and their news programs only show news about the USA. A lot of bright Americans log on to the BBC to get proper news.

Also have you SEEN their president? Any country who elects such an obvious idiot deserves all they get.

And as for Kyoto, greenhouse emissions - don't get me started.....

I dunno, maybe because they(well, a good many) expect every country to have a Walmart, A Burger King and speak english?

I lived in the UK for a couple years, in a lovely medieval town and, with all the great history there, too many American tourists wanted to know where the closest Mall was and whether we had Bud Light on tap....

Hell, if you wanna see American stuff, stay in America...
