I freaked out and hoped to stay employed at the clinic as an assistant... well time passed and I got layed off because they found a girl with her liscence that only wanted to be part-time... Now i am back to square one, It has been 1 year since i graduated i really dont want to get back in the field (I dont know why,but I just dont) Now im stuck in a dead end job getting paid 13.50 as a secretary, and i find myself lacking motivation for my work, I keep falling behind and its not like my work is hard! I want to do something with my life; I want to be a "somebody" but how if i have NO motivation... does any one have any advice please dont be rude. I thank you all.

Awwww shucks ma'am, please don't bother if someone is rude to you; though I don't think anybody could be such a jerk.

First of all, ma'am, may I say that your narrative indicates that you're in a lot of stress and lack of direction.

What you need is to be able to find something you enjoy doing.

I'd counselled a lady I'd met on the Net some time back and she said she'd had to take up a temp job as a Secretary and hated it. However, she loved Baking. So I suggested that she learn how to bake Wedding Cakes and start making them. She started this as a weekend vocation with a couple of orders she got on that weekend and, today, she hires a Team of 12 people to work in her Bakery!?!?

Similarly, there was this other young lady I met some time back, with the same problem like you and she couldn't cook or bake for nuts!? But she loved sketching and I suggested she try her hand at stained glass.

She made her first stained glass portrait of her kitten playing with a ball of wool and she's never looked back!?!?

Please find out what you love doing and research it.

Once you're ready, like Nike always says - Just do it!?!?

Trust me, you won't be looking back, either.

Have a great day!

Finding motivation is not easy, no matter what anyone may say or what society may have us believe.

Best advice I can offer, is you need to take an inventory of who you are. What do you like to do when you are not working? What are your values (family, career, money, power, society). Motivation comes from a drive to succeed, but it is very difficult to be motivated doing something you do not value. So spend some alone time and make a list of what you value. Then try to decide if there is a career that would allow you to use those values. Once that is all done, then you need to either get training to do the new career (and if it is interesting to you, the motivation will follow for you to excel at it) or simply find a job if you have adequate training now.

I can totally identify with your lack of motivation! I feel like that about my job quite a bit. I often have to invent ways to challenge myself because I get so bored with the same old grind. Don't believe the hype that many people enjoy their jobs. 99% of people wouldn't go to work if they had an unlimited supply of money. I've come to realize that work is just something to be endured so that you can enjoy the benefits of financial independence.

Just keep in mind that your current position is just a means to an end, not an end in itself. You may not have discovered what you're going to do with your life, but you know you've got to keep working and earning an income. You'll figure things out eventually.

Get into another field of study and try to study part time, that will keep you busy and you'll have the goal of another qualification to look forward to. Make sure it is an area you would like to work in.

Also I find sports are very motivating, even if it is only a jog in the morning and/or evening

As far as time is concerned, I work full time and attend grad school part time, all while owning my own home and having to do everything on my own. You're just making excuses.

I suggest you make appts. to meet with advisors from a local college in all the departments you think you are interested in. In the meantime, teach your husband how to cook and clean. He needs to know how to do that anyway.

Your screen name confuses me! If you know you are simply you then you should be happy with the "somebody you are. Buddha says that happiness is the journey and not the destination. Remember to be you self motivate. Forget the books and remember a job is something we do not something that does us.

Find a mentor....Read a motivational book....Buy a planner...Write down goals and check them off as soon as you accomplish them....Start off with small goals...then move on to bigger goals...Then give me a massage for such a great answer.

Would you alternatively drink a ketchup, mustard, beer, salt & pepper milkshake for breakfast each morning or roll round in a poison ivy plant? Foot lengthy, untrimable nosehair??? LOL!
