I wanted to know what the effect of continuing birth control pills would be on a baby if you didn't know you conceived. I missed a pill a week after my period by 5 hours (I usually take it at noon but didn't take it until 4:45pm) and my husband and I had sex that night (we both knew I had missed the pill and I know you can miss by around 2 hours and be okay, and I'm sure there's little chance I'm pregnant). I don't think I've had any symptoms such as sore breasts but I did have some very light pink spotting a few days later, but was just curious as to the effect on the baby. I've been taking prenatals for two weeks because we do plan to try in about 4-6 months. Also, I pee all the time but it's normal for me, I drink abuot a gallon of water a day. Thanks for your input.

Thanks so much for the responses so far. I just wanted to add that I'm 22, have been on the pill since about 3 months before my wedding 2 years ago. I'm not stressing over whether or not I'm pregnant, my husband and I would be happy if I were, just had planned on a little later. Thanks again, your words are reassuring.

Your body produces estrogen and progesterone the entire course of your pregnancy, the levels gradually rise until you give birth, along with the hCG hormones. These hormones (except for hCG) are commonly in birth control pills. What they do is trick your body into thinking it's pregnant so you do not ovulate. Estrogen and progesterone hormonal pills will not harm an implanted fetus.

You're probably fine, but you should use back up for the rest of the month if you don't want to get pregnant just yet. There shouldn't be any significant risk as long as you stop taking the pills as soon as you miss a period. Do a test right away (but remember that stress can delay a period, so try not to worry), and see your doctor so the baby has the best prenatal care possible.

Depending on how long you've taken the pill, it may take you longer than you think to become pregnant. For me, it took nearly three years, and some help with fertiltiy drugs because my body got lazy on the pill. It didn't have to make hormones, so when I stopped taking the pill, my own chemistry was messed up. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen right away, and happy trying!!

There are actually quite a lot of people who end up taking the pill once they are pregnant. I had a similar experience when I was younger. Forgot the pill, had sex and thought that I might be pregnant. The amount of hormones that the pill will deliver to a baby will not harm your baby. You can not miscarry because of the pill, and you can't cause any problems with the baby's development. Hope this helps!

I can say with a fair amount of confidence that 1 pill a few hours late will not put you at risk. Taking the pill for the rest of this cycle will not harm the baby though. I think you should call your Dr. if you're worried.

I got pregnant on the pill and didn't know until 3 weeks into the pregnancy. I did have twins initially and lost one twin early on - at about 7 weeks. But the other twin is now 15 1/2.

Hey we are in the exact same boat.
I missed my pill by 3 hours, 2 days in a row... and had sex both days. Now two weeks later I have had light spotting, i have been on the pill for three months now and have never experianced this.
I really hope that everything works out for you :)

I think your odds of beng pregnant are very slim to none. The BCP makes your body "think" it's released a pill when it actually has not. So, the cchances that your body released an egg in that 4 hour span and got fertalized.... very slim.

I've missed 2 days of pills before and didn't get pregnant until I was off the pill for a month.

Good Luck!

I dont think you are prenant but my sisterand was on the pill found out she was pregnant on her 4th month, she never missed her period or had any signs so she kept taking the pill, the doctor told her there are many cases like this and it usually doesnt affect the baby, her baby is now 5 and very healthy

I got pregnant on the pill...never missed a day...always took them in the morning. I have never heard that it has to be taken at the exact same time...I know that I never took it at the same time each day. Hmmm...maybe that is why I got pregnant. I doubt you are pregnant...but once you start wanting to really try...then get off them. Once you know you are preggers...get off them. Until then relax, and keep taking your pills!!!
