MAP: An abstract representation of the physical features of a portion of the Earth's surface graphically displayed on a planar surface. Maps display signs, symbols, and spatial relationships among the features. They typically emphasize, generalize, and omit certain features from the display to meet design objectives (eg, railroad features might be included in a transportation map but omitted from a highway map).
GLOBE: A true-to-scale map of the Earth that duplicates its round shape and correctly represents areas, relative size and shape of physical features, distances, and directions.

GLOBE:
The most accurate world map is a globe. Like the planet Earth, a globe is shaped as a ball. When you look at a globe you can truly see the way the world looks in all of its complexity.
All the countries are shown in true size relative to each other. You can see how far apart different cities are and you can learn what time it is in another part of the world.
Globes so much more accurate than flat maps of the world? Because if you peeled the paper off a globe and tried to lay it out on a table like a map, it would be tough to work it out properly The map would have all sorts of gaps in it.
But that's essentially what cartographers have been trying to do for hundreds of years. On some flat maps, pieces of land near the North Pole look larger than they are in reality. For example, Antarctica stretches across the bottom of a flat map when it is really a circular continent.
Of course, flat maps can be very useful; you cannot put a globe in your pocket while you are traveling. But if you want to "think globally," it is obvious that a globe is what you need.
MAP:
A map is a representation of the Earth, or part of it. The distinctive characteristic of a topographic map is that the shape of the Earth's surface is shown by contour lines.
Contours are imaginary lines that join points of equal elevation on the surface of the land above or below a reference surface, such as mean sea level. Contours make it possible to measure the height of mountains, depths of the ocean bottom, and steepness of slopes.
A topographic map shows more than contours. The map includes symbols that represent such features as streets, buildings, streams, and vegetation. These symbols are constantly refined to better relate to the features they represent, improve the appearance or readability of the map, or reduce production cost.
Consequently, within the same series, maps may have slightly different symbols for the same feature. Examples of symbols that have changed include built-up areas, roads, intermittent drainage, and some lettering styles.
So, in short, to get an idea of the real world "spherical world", it is best to use a globe rather than a map taking into consideration all the advantages a globe can offer.
Hope u find this info sufficient and useful.

the shape of the earth is not a geometric figure, however, it is near from an ellipsoid of evolution. a representation of the earth would be th ebest if it's prijected onto an ellipsoid, a projection on a sphere (globe) is less realistic (distortion of distances and angles) but much better than on a plan (map) with it's great (linear or/and angular) distorsions, depending on the chosen cartographical projection.

a map is flat and therefore gives a distorted view of the earth; the globe is round and gives a less distorted view
