ruining America's families. It is the conservative's fiscal/social policies that don't help people out who need help. Not every family has the luxury to have a stay at home parent with inflation and the mass of low paying jobs. My mother had to work, and I admire her for that, she had to do what she had to do. She divorced an abusive man, and had to stand on her own. I appreciate all she has done for me w/ what little resources she had. Sure, I'd love it if all moms got to stay home, however, it is a luxury--and out of the reach of most people. Do you agree or disagree?

Hi. Totally agree. I do believe that the middle class in general has been carrying the load at the expense of our children. Working moms are not able to spend as much time with their little ones as is needed. It is heartbreaking for us who have to work outside the home to make ends meet, leaving our children with someone else who may be the first to witness our child walk for the first time, or write his name. And yes, some conservative types can be very judgmental. They simply have never had to do what you have to do. They have no clue. And maybe don't care. Life isn't fair. It is a very narrow mind that would look down on anyone for doing what they have to do, while at the same time supporting policies that help only the affluent- the ones who don't need it. Their biggest problems may consist of their regular nail salon lady having a day off when they chip a nail, or which ski resort to take a family of five this Christmas vacation- while you worry about taking a day off work to take your child to the doctor with a fever. I know that pain. I would have loved to have had the option of being a stay at home mom- and did till my son was nearly 3. My husband was abusive, and you know the rest. It is a pain that never goes away.
Then for someone to judge- they are so far out of their realm. God is the ultimate judge of all.

The sane conservatives would view the problem like this. For raising children, a stay-at-home mom is better. While it is a necessity for some, others go to work simply because they choose to. They view this as being selfish (putting your desires above the needs of the child.) Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to determine who needs to work and who doesn't, so many conservatives blast the whole spectrum. (Much like you did by saying that it is conservatives don't help people and place them in this situation.) The more extreme conservatives might even believe that some only think that they need to work. If they didn't, they could just live off of less income and still be okay. Some might even go so far as to say that God will provide for them if they live "right."

I cannot say if their belief is 100% true or not. I can say that it is taken too far, just as nearly everything is. I don't think everyone has to agree with their logic, but people should understand where others are coming from and respect that. Aren't you asking that of them?

I do agree that social policies in this country make it very difficult for families (of all types) to make ends meet. I think, however, that it would be unfair to generalize and say that all conservatives believe that working women are ruining the American family unit. Low minimum wage and unfair welfare policy make it impossible for all low income individuals to get ahead. To characterize women who seek assistance from welfare as "lazy" as some have done is misleading. Welfare is a program instituted to provide assistance to women and children at their most vulnerable. The entire purpose of the welfare system is to assist low-income women in finding employment, while providing much-needed funds for nutrician, clothing, and healthcare for children.

For some, there is a choice to either work at home as a mama and homemaker or work outside the home. For most, however, such a choice does not exist. Do I believe that it would be wonderful if all women got to stay @ home? Not in the least. I believe that women, should they have the opportunity, should have a choice. Current social policy seriously limits choice.

IF there are people who look down on you for supporting your family, I think they are way out of line. It seams that people forget to look at individual situations, and I believe that any reasonable person would see what you are doing as the right thing for your family.

Things have changed from the days when a stay-at-home mom was the norm, our responsibilty is to now find how people in society can compensate for this change.

Personally, I don't think that this issue can be directed at any party in general.

Women and other minorities were denied many rights in our nations history. Once the rights were established to give us equality, this changed the perspective of society as a whole.

Along with these rights came sacrifice and unfortunately that sacrifice is often family.

I agree (without going into the rest of it) that people shouldn't look down on women who work.

Just as they shouldn't look down on women who choose not to pursue a career and be full-time moms, as some liberals have been accused of doing.

I have little time or energy to worry about othere's choices. To each her own.

I know it's hard for women at times. Good luck.

i agree with you 100 percent.I'm sure your mother is a wonderful person.it takes ALOT of money to raise children and if there are not two parents around then it becomes very hard, those same conservatives should be applauding single mothers for pulling it off.

I agree. I respect both the stay at home mother- my mother and grandmother were stay-at-homes and both wonderful human beings, and I respect the working woman who either works because she has to, or because her occupation gives her fulfillment.

I agree some women have no choice but to work, and I respect them more than people who go on welfare. I dont think all people on welfare are lazy, I know some do need it

Sure, it's all the Conservatives fault that the democrats have taxed us to the point where both parents have to work. now your Democratic idol carl levin wants to roll back all of the Conservative tax cuts so you can work harder to support their stupid giveaway programs.
