well everone has to accept wat they are,
The Africans are Black, and they are hell proud of it, they even call it black power, thers white pride among the Eurpoeans, as for the Indians there are mixtures of colors, there are Fair, white, tanned, Brown, whetish and black Indians. . .
But majority of the Indians either fall in the fair, tanned or brown skin,
As for the carribeans there is a diff skin tone they have silky tanned texture.
In General all race groups accept their skin colour.
When mentioned to a Chinese that majority of Chinese are Yellow, they tend to see it as rascism.
Why is it that a Chinese cannot accept their colour ?
They tend to address themselve as
white or fair . . .
Maybe light skin, but not fair or white at all.
Arn"t Chinese proud of their skin colour .
This is a long time curiousity that i have for very long,

Hmmm, I am not surprised they get the hump with you.

Homer Simpson is yellow, I am not sure I know any Chinese folks of that colour - "pale sepia" possibly but not yellow. ;)

I am Asian. I am not yellow because I've alot of sun in this part of the world and I'm brown. In fact, a lot of Chinese i know have been mistaken for other races - for e.g. the hilltribes in Burma and Taiwan sometimes do look like Africans because of their skintones.

I am dead proud to be Chinese, but I'm not yellow so how can I be proud that I am Yellow?
I'm Brown if you want to go into specifics.

Moreover, one must also take note that Asia is made out of East, South and Southeast Asia. Each fall other different zones and while Vietnam has 4 seasons, Singapore (where I am located) is sunny all year round. I love extreme sports and I'm under the sun 24/7, so I'm definitely not yellow or white or fair.

But I do suggest you take a look at Asian American History, which is what I am doing right now and read about acts like the Chinese Exclusion Acts etc. I don't deny many Chinese don't like to be labelled Yellow but I think it also stems from the perpetuate stereotypes behind the label Yellow.

On the other hand, there ARE Chinese who are PROUD to be Yellow. The 'Yellow Power' in 1965 America for example - of students asking for their rights to have Asian Studies in universities.

It's no good to generalise. Thank you.

Years ago I attended a conference at which one of the speakers was Yvonne Brathwaite Burke. When things were opened to questions, one Anglo woman said to Yvonne "I don't understand why you call yourselves black when your skin is really brown". Yvonne replied, "Well, why do you call yourselves white? Your skin isn't really white, is it?"

The woman looked down at her arm, and replied "No, it's not white....it's flesh tone".

Yvonne smiled and said "So is mine, dear, so is mine"

I don't think it's up to anyone else to determine how an ethnic group refers to itself...and I'm not going to be assigning motivations when I have no experience with their culture.

It might be better if you simply asked "How do Asians refer to their skin color, and why?" .

Is there any particular reason that people who find a term offensive should accept it just because someone *outside their ethnic group* thinks they should?

What we're talking about here is not a denial of actual skin coloration - people can just look down and SEE that - but how that is referred to, both within the ethnic group and by outsiders.

I have no idea what kinds of associations the color yellow has to Asians, or to Chinese people in particular. Do you?

Chinese people are not yellow. I am a white European and if you stand me next to a Chinese person we are pretty much the same colour. No one in this world is yellow.
