I recommend you to download and run Software Information for Windows Tool from the following link :
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/SIW.shtml
Or
http://www.download.com/SIW/3000-2086_4-10569778.html
This is easy to use.
As you said that it is an Integrated VIA Ethernet controller you can download the drivers from the following URL. Refer the chipset model from this site :
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1190

At first, try downloading your drivers from a Windows CD. Under the NIC's properties try to Update Driver (using windows cd, or some other CD that might have come along with the motherboard)
If that doesn't work, you can run START->RUN->dxdiag to see if it tspits anything out. But most likely, you may either have to download some sort of diagnostics software, or open up your computer and take a look at the board. There should be a model number on it somewhere in the plain view.
Good luck.

http://filehippo.com/software/benchmark/
there are quite a few tools in this list.
I personally prefer cpu-z - very compact, and provides a lot of useful info. Try different ones, see which ones you like best.

usually the model name is between one of the slots written in big letters.
for example here http://www.tomshardware.com/picturegalleries/200609151/asus-m2-crosshair-board.jpg
from the left side, the model number is after the 3rd expansion slot
