I work in a call centre as well, but mine is an inbound centre, meaning that people call ME. I don't call ANYONE. I got a call the other day where someone as trying to sell me cookbooks. I waited for the person to do their opening which was about 1 minute and 30 seconds long. Then I said, "sorry I'm not interested, have a good day." and hung up. That was an aweful lot for that person to say for a hang up. If any telemarketer is out there, I would just like to know, would you rather being cut off and hung up on right away or would you just like to get what you say out before I hang up??

I think you did the polite thing by letting them say their peace and then saying nicely you were not interested and hung up. I think it's better than just bluntly hanging up on a person.

I'm not a telemarketer but I would assume if you have to say a 2 minute speech about 200 times a day, it would be considered an act of mercy to hang up right away.

Im not a telemarketer but I like to let em have a good long chat before I tell them Im not interested!! I guess they prefer a quick cut off then they can try someone else and perhaps get some commission on a sale.

I'm not a telemarketer, but when I get calls, I interrupt at first chance and say, 'sorry, I'm not interested'.
