My brother in law was living with me for a while. He would crank the bass up but the volume would be low. He did not understand that even though he could barely hear it, the neighbors could feel the music. Also he has mild hearing loss, when he turned it up, he did not know how loud his music really was.
Well, after neighbors complained to him, to me and to the landlord, he was spoken to several times and he didn't get it. Anyways his excuse was "it's not that loud" and it was, or the other excuse "the other neighbors crank their music too", no one else was complaining about other neighbors, just him.
So after several notices, the landlord kicked him out. I would encourage you to respect your neighbors by turning down the bass and volume or wear headphones. If this does not work for you, considering relocating where you wont have to share walls with neighbors.
One of my pet peeves is being woken up by someone cranking their music in the middle of the night, I had no problem calling the police because they were disturbing the peace. RESPECT thy neighbor!

You are allowed to play your music as loud as you want until 10 pm (I think. It might be 11). After that, they have the right to complain. Sometimes the music is louder than you think, so you might not realize how loud it is. I have experienced this from also living in a student apartment complex. Just try to keep it down at night and if they complain before 10, tell them to shove it.

In an apartment complex you sometimes get annoying neighbors. If your music really is not too loud, you may be able to get the manager to tell the other person that during the day hours, we sometimes hear our neighbors and that is part of apartment living. I did it and it worked for me.
By the same token, if your neighbor chooses to watch Barney loudly all day long, that is part of apartment living too.
Good luck.

The truth is, you live in close quarters with lots of other people. I know we all want to play loud music when we are young and hang out with our friends and laugh. However, when living in an apartment community you do have to respect other people's rights to peace. They don't have laws about disturbing the noise, but they do have laws about disturbing the peace.
I would just put head phones on or something.
Good Luck and Take Care

Unfortunately you will have to keep the noise down. There are probably rules that you agreed to before moving into the apartment complex and this is normally one of the rules. I would live by them and when the time comes to re-new your lease...I would find a house. That way you don't have neighbors living over or under you.

Move out on 10 acres of land and play your music as loud as you like. I took my neighbors to court, cause they were having a punk rock ban rehearsal in their living room every night, all night long. They were fined and had to move immediately. I live in a house in a nice neighborhood, my neighbors were renting. You're neighbor can press charges if they like. You'll end up in court and have to hire a lawyer and pay lots of money, you might even get evicted. Just for your info.

call the local clerk office and find out the times for noise violation, if you are playing your music during the day I doubt if the cops will do anything
One thing to do is played your music during the day and if the cops come just turn it down a little before the cops show up, eventually the cops will get tired and tell the people to stop calling them

In this great Country of our, you can do most what ever you want AS LONG as it doesn't affect other people. Just like someone cant not impose there will on you and invade your space, maybe thats why the last guy moved. Find another apartment. Your house only goes to the walls, not into other apartments

When you live in your own home and there are no neighbors to annoy........ listen away
While living in a community setting, you have a responsibility to keep the volume down to a level that does not annoy your neighbors.
Buy some quality headphones
Grow up......... I would have punched your lights out if you disrespected my rights this way

What may not sound loud in your apartment is evidently loud enough to hear in your neighbors apartment. If they have the police officer to come into their apartment, and they deem it loud enough to hear, it is too loud according to the noise ordinance in most cities. Your tv, radio, and stero is not supposed to be heard in your neighbor`s apartment or home.
