Nope, it actually happens. A friend of mine who served in Viet Nam actually lost control of his bladder when his platoon was clearing out some wounded troops and they got fired upon. He jumped into the helicopter and noticed that he had urinated all over himself.
I have never been shot at, so I can't say what I would do.

What it would take to trigger that reaction would vary from person to person but the bowels discharge when someone dies and a lot of the symptoms of shock are related to biological processes which should only occur at death. If you really believe, subconsciously, that your death is imminent then, yes, it could happen. Your heart could literally stop as well. Same sort of process.

What actually happens, is they lose control (or they no longer have tighened) the bowel and other muscles that control the bladder or the anus. This loosening of the bowel muscles and the bladder allows force (for those that have built up pressure) to push through, "plopping" any waste in its receptacle.

When your body goes into shock, or you are really afraid, it will stimulate thing that are important for flight like the heart rate (you need more blood circulation) and will shut down (or stop putting energy in) other parts, like controlling your bladder or digestion. So yes it is possible

I would imagine its how your body reacts to the fear at hand just as some people would go into shock, pass out, lose attention/awareness, or more over, scream.
