Questions are asked for many reasons.
Some just want to know what others think.
What, to you, is a stupid question, may not be a stupid question at all to the asker.
Many askers know that there are actually qualified people on this program to answer their question.
Many askers aren't actually interested in finding a true answer to
their question. They just want others to agree with what they already think.
Some are actually looking for new ideas.
And, of course, there are many, many more reasons for asking questions.

Would it be more appropriate to ask complicated questions of the general public? Alright, in 200 words or less, would someone please explain the differences between string theory and quantum theory and why string theory hasn't actually managed to predict anything?
