Because immaturity in an adult is annoying. This doesn't mean you can't act like a child when it's appropriate, just don't act like a child when you should be serious. It means to take responsibility for yourself. Don't make jokes of serious matters. This is why we tell our children to "Act your age!" But it doesn't mean to stop enjoying life. Just be responsible.

We need to grow up mentally as there is no other way as long as we live. We all have been growing up from childhood acquiring both mental and physical skills.Unless we reach maturity in thought we will find lasting happiness. So it is necessary to grow.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.
Sure, there are times when acting mature is essential but that doesn't mean you have to act mature all the time. Just try to enjoy life!
