You may be right. At the end of the day, we have worn red poppies for years and years. We wear them out of respect for the men who fought in those battlefields (whilst raising money for charity). Haven't the church got better things to think about? Why worry about such things when there is so much hypocricy and corruption going on under its own nose.

The red poppies are a symbol of rememberance for those who fought for us and our freedom. It commemorates people of ALL religions as it is not just Christians who have fought for us! The flower and colour comes from the poppies growing on the Fields Flanders after WW1 and this is when the Poppy Appeal began. This is some petty think tank trying to turn the Poppy and the work of the Royal British Legion into a Christian symbol and organisation which they are not whilst trying to sound PC.

This is wrong, I will not wear a white Poppy I will wear (I actually am!) wear a RED one. THe white one is supposed to symbolise peace and the red war apparently well if thats the case I'm remembering how horrific war actually is and will try to learn from the confilcts of the past to prevent them in the future!

Brilliant answer by concede. I agree that there is no need for words on a poppy. There are no words that could possibly describe the ultimate sacrifice the forces and also civilians paid during the times of conflict. I often wonder what these brave people would think of Britain today and whether they would think their sacrifice was in fact worthwhile. The poppy should be red.

Its just the church trying to impose their views on everybody else as usual, it's always been red poppies those on the battlefields of ww1 were red, many people who died during conflicts around the world are not christian so why should we wear white poppies to remember them, i will buy my RED poppy as usual this year and will remember the men and women who have died for our freedom around the world no matter what there race, creed or religion.

I thought that the whole idea was to remember the people that died during wars.
We have used the red poppy since 1919 (I think)

Why change things now?

The Christian Church need to spend more time worrying why people do not visit their places of worship more often-could it be that the Christian Church is out of touch with the rest of society.

The poppies that grew after the slaughter on the battle fields of the Somme and other theatres of war after WW1 were red, not white. Although all that was left was a treeless muddy waste land, the red poppies grew again. Although we will never stop fighting each other, for those of us that hate war it's a nice thought. Keep them red and sod the other religions if they don't like it!

Its pathetic, he compared it to the row about the wearing of Religious symbols!!! the Poppy is not a religious symbol it is worn to remember the millions who died fighting for their counrty so people like him can live and not be thankful and no respect. If it wasnt for those brave soldiers then none of us would be here... or we would all have German accents, These do-gooders who want to change everything just to suit them need to get a grip. I lost my Grandfather in the 2nd World War, and i thank him every year on the 11th November for saving our lives.

No matter what religion you are, it is more than likely that someone of every religion had fought in both wars... So everyone should pay their respects, we should never for get them.

Christians should have more to worry about such as helping the poor etc. than changing the colour of poppies.Leave the red poppy it's a symbol of the blood that was shed for our freedom and we are all proud to wear it.White is a colour of weakness.

i always thought that the red poppy was out of respect to the people that lost lives. wearing a white won't change what happened, everyone wants peace for the future , but you can't just forget what has already happened what did the church ever do for anyone.

The white poppies are to symbolize the superiority of peace over war. This is a grandiose idea but, I think, somewhat naive and even insulting to the vets that fought for our freedom.
